Histor of The Disabled Photographers' Society

The Disabled Photographers' Society is a registered National Charity, which encourages disabled people to take an active interest in photography as a therapeutic and creative pursuit.

It began in 1968 when a group of photo enthusiasts in Richmond invited severely disabled ex-servicemen from the Royal Star and Garter Home to join their meetings and share their interests.

Its new website is http://www.disabledphotographers.co.uk/

It now has members all over the U.K. and is run by unpaid volunteers dedicated to the aims and development of the Society.

Disabled were cold-shouldered
I am disgusted with whoever provided the disabled access and the location of it at Leicester Cathedral on March 8 for Her Majesty's visit.

Membership is open to everyone with a register-able disability (although you do not need to be actually registered to apply). Schools, day centres, hospital groups and similar organisations are eligible for the special terms offered with Group Membership.

If you are a new model or an existing model who needs to expand your portfolio we may be able to offer you a free portfolio and thanks to our in-house web servers and large internet pipe we can also arrange web site and email hosting at excellent rates - contact us for details.

Good luck to all you budding photographers
